BIOGRAPHY

Janis Jennings Snyder is a visual artist living in beautiful Oregon. See News & Events for information about Lake Oswego Open Studios tour in October, 2023.
Mixed media, acrylic and oil painting of landscapes, floral and abstracts are her love.
Janis is inspired by the beauty of the nature so she takes copious photos. “In nature, I look for something that moves me to use as my visual story. I love to play with light, texture and movement. I can’t get enough of cloud formations and any body water is simply inspirational.”
Janis’ fine arts career began in the late 1970’s. Before attending the Academy of Art in San Francisco, she studied privately with an MFA alum who helped her view the world through an “artistic eye”. Janis worked mostly on canvas until 1990. At that time she found a way to pursue her love for design and painting, and became a professional muralist. A mural and tromp l’oeil artist from 1992 to 2008, Janis’ work can be seen in private homes and businesses in California, Tennessee and New Jersey.
The dramatic arts have long been a source of joy as well. Janis brought her artistic and design skills to the forefront with both Transcendance Theatre Company and Sonoma Arts Live. As costume designer and curator, In 2016, Janis won Broadway World, Best Costume Design in the San Francisco Bay Area region.
